About Math Department

The Mathematics Department at Lincoln is comprised of three basic math classes that fulfill the A-G college entrance requirements. Those classes are Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, and Integrated Math III.

Integrated Mathematics I is the introductory math course at Lincoln High School. It is a year-long course that blends a variety of math topics, including basic number sense, geometry, rates and ratios, proportional thinking and linear algebra. It is the foundation for all subsequent math courses at Lincoln and is a pre-requisite for Integrated Math II. A strong component of real-world problem-solving will also be infused throughout the curriculum, preparing students for the Common Core assessment (taken in the 11th grade) as well as the rigors of college and industry. Finally, emphasis is placed on concepts and strategies that students will ultimately require on the SAT (college entrance exam).

Integrated Mathematics II is the intermediate level math course at Lincoln High School. It is a year-long course that blends a variety of math topics, including basic number sense, geometry, probability, quadratics and polynomials. It is the foundation for all subsequent math courses at Lincoln and is a pre-requisite for Integrated Math III.

Integrated Mathematics III is the advanced level math course at Lincoln High School. It is mostly a semester long course that blends a variety of math topics including the unit circle, trigonometry, rational expression, radical expressions, Conics and Series. It is the foundation for all subsequent math courses at Lincoln and is a pre-requisite for Pre-Calculus.

Beyond the three A-G required math classes, Lincoln High School also offers Pre-Calculus and Calculus for students who want to advance their math skills going into a college or university.

Pre-Calculus, or Trigonometry is an elective semester long college preparatory class. This is a standard-based introductory course that will introduce students to Trigonometric concepts. Topics that will be explored include, but are not limited to, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, analytic trigonometry, systems of equations and inequalities, matrices and determinants, conic sections and analytic geometry, sequences, induction, probability, and introduction to calculus.

Calculus Prep is a course designed to match the AP AB Curriculum as set forth by the College Board. It is a rigorous course which will cover one semester of college calculus. It is designed for students who have succeeded in Pre-Calculus and students who are college bound. The course adheres to the reforms in AP Calculus that focuses on understanding and problem solving, and the use of the graphing calculator to free up time to examine ideas in more detail.
