About English Department

The English curriculum has been designed to increase student appreciation for literature as well as increase student ability in the five literary skills areas: reading, writing, written conventions, listening and speaking, as directed by the Common Core Standards for English. Specific areas of focus include reading comprehension of informational materials, literary analysis and response, writing applications and conventions, informative and persuasive speaking, and research.

To achieve content area mastery, students will be exposed to a variety of literature from a variety of cultures. Students will also be expected to think critically about material, draw their own conclusions, and express those conclusions in a written format, class discussion, and as part of ongoing assessments connected to state standards.

Lincoln High School is excited to be launching the SpringBoard curriculum at all grade levels. This is a pre-AP program for all students. In conjunction with the 90 minute block periods, which 9th and 10th graders will have year long, we hope to improve readiness in students for college and career opportunities.
