Art

Why Visual and Performing Arts?

  • Artistic literacy/academic arts instruction.
  • The arts as communication; creative personal realization; culture, history and connectors; a means to wellbeing; community engagement.Artsinstruction helps support other academic areas.
  • Imbedded in the arts are communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.
  • The arts support the learning of essential "non-cognitive" skills or soft skills such as motivation, perseverance/grit, delayed gratification/willpower.

In Art 1,2 and Drawing and Painting, students explore the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will not only be creating art but will also be receiving a historical backdrop to the projects they are working on. Students will hopefully learn that art is not necessarily a product, but a process.
